Post from Amalia at Still Waters:

“Here at ‘still waters run deep’ we’re committed to providing an opportunity for graduates to get their foot in the workplace. The SWRD Academy is a chance for one top graphic design graduate to undertake a six month apprenticeship in an award-winning, London design agency to develop the skills needed for work in the industry.

Our second Academy student has now been with us for 6 months during which time she has designed websites, magazines and marketing collateral – all live briefs with real clients.

If you’re a graduate designer you can apply online at the link below or if you know any or who may still be looking for work, please forward these details.”

Call for entries deadline: 1 August 2010
Apply online – www.stillwaters-rundeep.co.uk/academy

- Check out the details – but I think this is an unpaid opportunity. However, you would get experience and a good folio together.

What do you want to do now? Posted by: sal

Hi to the ‘Class of 2010′

I am getting requests from contacts at companies looking for graduates, but I only know what a few of you are looking for in your careers. Could you all send me an email (if you haven’t already) to say what your strengths are and what you are ideally looking for in terms of a job/placement please?

While it is tough out there, there are still jobs to be had! and this will also give many of you experience of applications and interviews, which will help in the future.

COLLECTION OF WORK ETC. Posted by: mike

Only about 12 – 15 of you (out of a year group of 73) came to collect work from Studio 201 between 11.00am and 1.00pm last Friday.
There is quite a considerable amount of work left (Muji folios, work kept back for the External Assessor, print material from the show, books from the Library Exhibition of book arts etc. etc. etc.) and we will post a final mail as to what we intend to do with it early next week. The Team are about to finish for the Summer Break and there’s a good chance that the remaining work will be binned as we have no room for it.

We hope Glastonbury was worth it – you know who you are.
Mike

COLLECTION OF 3rd YEAR WORK – FRIDAY 25th June – Studio 201 – 11.00am to 1.00pm Posted by: mike

Mike N will be in Studio 201 (ah, it only seems like yesterday) during the hours as stated above, to oversee hand-back of any outstanding work.
We are keeping any of the larger prints created for the show (A1 and AO) as we covered their printing. Other material you are welcome to take away.
Mike will also have finally liberated the book art work which featured in the recent Library exhibition and you can collect that too. (Lots of very positive feedback about the exhibition and your work, by the way.)
You are strongly advised to attend during this slot. The Graphics team will soon be away for the Summer break (essentially July and August) and you won’t be able to access anything you’ve left behind. As storage space is at a premium, we cannot guarantee that work will be retained over the Summer break.

PS – There are currently (23rd/24th June) problems with UCA Epsom mails sent to ‘outside’ email addresses, and mails sent by Mike (answering queries about work to be collected) have been returned as undelivered. For which, apologies.
See you Friday.
Material kept back for the External Assessor will also be available to collect.

COLLECTION OF ANY 3rd YEAR WORK WE STILL HAVE: Posted by: mike

Dear Former Students of ‘The Class of 2010′:

Mike Nicholson will be at UCA Epsom on Friday 25th (this Friday) from 11.00am to oversee the handing back of any work we still have.
We still have work that was retained for External Assessment (for which our thanks), folios etc. etc. Also material related to the show at the Barge House.

Mike will post a specific venue for his collection by end of Thursday latest. He does not however have a crystal ball (no jokes please) – if you are looking for an A3 folio that you last saw ‘somewhere on the 2nd Floor’ in October it’s HIGHLY unlikely he can help you. Also, he was not at the taking down of the Show – though you should have been – so don’t expect him to have any knowledge about what was put where.

Meanwhile, in preparation for next week’s Convocation Day at Guildford Cathedral (big place on the hill), please watch any ‘Hogwarts’ sequence from a Harry Potter film.
